Interview with the World Champions GM Vertigo

Question 1: How does it feel knowing you won back-to-back World Series?

It feels amazing! I'm so happy for this group of players that are on this team. Every one of them have worked their asses off the past few seasons -- from the superstars to the role players -- and it shows in the results. They have certainly earned the title of champions.

I'm also happy for the fans who have waited for so long for THEIR Pirates to return to the greatness that past generations fell in love with. And the newest generations hadn't been able to experience until now. 20-plus years is a long time to watch losing baseball.

Question 2: Were you surprised at Andrew Heaney's performance in 2015?

Nothing Andrew does can surprise me. I think he's the best pitcher in baseball and I expect he'll have much more success for years to come. If he doesn't walk away with the NL Cy Young award this year, it'll be a travesty. If you get the opportunity, get out to the ballpark and watch him work -- it's a beautiful thing to see.

Question 3: Who do you view as the biggest asset and biggest upset on your team?

Heaney is probably our most valuable asset. As we said, we feel he's the best pitcher in baseball. A left-hander with his talent at his age is a once in a lifetime asset for a team to have. But don't let that allow you to overlook the other incredible talent on this team. We have four other guys in the rotation who would be aces on a lot of other teams, a great young catcher who just finished a fantastic rookie season and one of the best double-play duos in the league with Profar and Hamilton.

Everyone on this team was vital to the championship runs of the past two years and we hope will continue to be next season as well.

Question 4: Did you expect Pujols to preform better then he did?

We weren't really sure what to expect out of Albert. He was having a down year for sure in New York, but we know that his ability at the plate is still among the best in the league. His performance in the playoffs -- particularly in the divisional series against our rivals -- was well worth the cost.

We're well aware though that the contract was definitely a risk to take on. We have a plan in place though if worst comes to worst and our budget forces us to part ways with him.

Question 5: All of these players are stars on your team (Jurickson Profar, Danny Hultzen, Kevin Gausman, and Stephon Pryor) Now considering the budget you have do you think we will see any of these names on the FA Market?

The plan will be to keep these players in Pittsburgh for many, many years to come. And it's my job to figure out a way to do that. I guarantee the fans that the Pirates will never see years of losing like they had in the recent past ever again.
